VMware Discovery Center

Palo Alto, California

Client

Based in the heart of Silicon Valley, VMware is a global leader in cloud computing and platform virtualization software and services.

Challenge

As VMware continued to expand, they began to reimagine their briefing center experience in late 2017. How could they accurately showcase VMware's unique and enterprise leading technology solutions and address their growing needs around the world?

Solution

During the design process, the center was re-named as the VMware Discovery Center to reflect a new, more interactive and collaborative approach to customer visits enabled by flexible and integrated platforms on VMware's technology. The Possibility Wall senses proximity and encourages visitor to interact as they walk by. The real time data wall display is a dynamic projection map that overlays live data source feeds onto regions of the globe. The Cloud immersion room features large digital platforms designed to immerse the visitors in content and storytelling. The platforms allow for on-demand access to a vast data base of assets across market types.

Impact

The result has been a resounding success as customers, partners, and internal audiences have been impressed with the Discovery Center's effectiveness in conveying VMware in a way that is open, grounded, and surprising in a setting that is elegant, yet warm and welcoming through experiences that are both interactive and immersive.

The reception area and wall are the visitor’s first impression of the space. They are greeted with a personal message on the reception screen and the check-in process is quick and painless. Guests already feel warm and welcomed as they begin their journey through the VDC.

After check-in is complete and guests have idle time they can explore the center on their own. The Possibility Wall senses proximity and encourages visitor to interact as they walk by. Once a session has been initiated visitors can explore a variety of factoids and short stories about VMware’s company culture, innovation and values.

The real time data wall display is a dynamic projection mapping display that overlays live data source feeds mapped to regions of the globe. This data is related to VMWare partners around the world as well as VMWare global reach.

The Cloud Immersion room features large digital platforms designed to immerse the visitors in content and storytelling that brings relevant, customized solutions to life. The platforms allow for on demand access to a vast data base of assets across market types. The platforms allow for ideation, scenarios building and virtual immersion into customized solutions.

The Technology Solution Wall in the cloud room is a smaller 3x3 array focuses the visitor’s attention on various products and solutions that VMware offers. Content is intended to remain high-level, with the deeper level conversations happening in the conference room. Here visitors are invited to collect content they are interested in for persuading colleagues back at the office. Content at the wall might be a short teaser, while collected versions will be the complete long-form persuasive content.

The Edge Room features a flexible demo platform that allows presenters to prepare a set of layouts in advance, then step through each layout using an intuitive cover-flow system. Presenters can move through each step, then quickly go forward or back to skip to a specific step. While the majority of demos are prepared with video captures in advance, the system also allows live video feeds of devices in the room that can be seamlessly integrated into the demo steps.
