Shands new Cancer Hospital at the University of Florida not only offers a state-of-the-art facility, but a unique community of healers who embrace a common vision: The Science of Hope. Shands fosters a belief that healing is more than doctors and medicine, it is a community environment of giving, creativity, and inspiration that nourishes and uplifts the spirit. This awareness of the humanity required to heal lies at the heart of Shands story, and was crucial to tell.

Development

From materials to media, every aspect of the physical space was designed to strengthen and reinforce the message of healing and inspiration. Engaging and educating through narrative and artistic media is core to Shand’s philosophy and practice of healing. We were always looking to envelope the participant in the inspirational energy that lies at the core of this place. Materials were picked to celebrate the natural beauty of Gainsville, and storytelling shared the selfless nature of the professionals and volunteers that call Shands their home.

Solution

Utilizing interactive touch screens designed to encourage participation; two immersive media stations tell the story of Shands as seen through its employees and contributors. Both stations reflect the uniquely giving character of Shands and tell stories of not only community members volunteering their time and money, but of how thousands of Shand’s own employees donate out of their paychecks to Shands. Their stories are showcased here in a passionate multi-screen presentation.
